ASSEMBLY INDUSTRIES

Job Title - Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE)

Also known as: Client Services Engineer · Solutions Engineer · Implementation Engineer

About Assembly

Assembly Industries is The Workforce Modernization Company. For fifty years, software — the single greatest lever for business efficiency and productivity — has been gated behind two doors: buy it from a vendor, or hire an engineering team to build it. Coding agents have fundamentally changed that. Our mission is to make every employee a builder: we convert often non-technical subject-matter experts into prolific builders of software through training, a platform to execute on, and a partner standing beside them every day after launch.

Assembly Platform is our end-to-end application lifecycle platform — from problem discovery and requirements through architecture, production deployment with IT, adoption, and ongoing maintenance. The prototype is just the tip of the iceberg; Assembly Platform and our team handle everything below the waterline. Our vision is to help existing businesses build their own software operating system from the inside out.

Role Overview

We are onboarding our first 50 Assembly Platform customers, and every one of them will build their first production-grade application with us. You are the partner standing beside them. You will be the hands-on engineer and client-facing lead who takes each customer from onboarding to a live, production application — running calls, building alongside them, debugging their vibe-coded projects, and owning the path to launch. You will use Assembly Platform alongside our customers, helping them turn business requirements into production applications and leaving them able to continue building after launch.

This is a rare hybrid role: half forward-deployed engineer, half client services. You will be one of the earliest hires shaping how Assembly delivers on its promise to the Founding customer cohort.

What You'll Do

Client Services & Delivery

  • Own the customer relationship day-to-day: lead onboarding calls and training sessions with professionalism and high-proficiency English.
  • Run the follow-through: send meeting follow-ups, share project plans, and deliver regular status updates so customers always know where their build stands.
  • Keep momentum: follow up with customers after onboarding sessions and schedule their next onboarding and training sessions.
  • Translate customer problems into clear application requirements, implementation plans, and launch criteria.
  • Lead product discovery with customers: uncover the real problem behind the request, challenge weak assumptions, prioritize the highest-value workflows, and define what should — and should not — be built.

Building & Support

  • Build production-grade applications: assist each of our first 50 customers in taking their first application from prototype to production on Foundry.
  • Support customers in Slack: respond quickly, dig into their code and vibe-coded projects, and figure out what's going on.
  • QA and ship: test applications, build features on customers' behalf, and squash bugs standing between them and launch.
  • Run the board: maintain a project board per customer and always know the open items remaining to get the first application to production.
  • Turn business workflows into sound data models, permissions, integrations, and user experiences.
  • Maintain engineering quality across application architecture, API boundaries, authentication, source control, testing, and deployment.

What We're Looking For

Must-Haves

  • Vibe coding portfolio: you must be able to point to at least five fully vibe-coded, productionized applications you've built. We will ask to see them.
  • AI-native builder: genuinely excited about AI-assisted software development. You use modern coding agents as part of your daily workflow and actively follow relevant frameworks, tools, and open-source projects.
  • Engineering foundation: strong grounding in system design and software architecture. You can structure and productionize a full-stack application — not just prompt one into existence — and are comfortable with modern frontend development, APIs, authentication, data modeling, Git, testing, and cloud deployment.
  • Exceptional product judgment: you can enter an unfamiliar business domain, understand how work actually gets done, identify the highest-leverage product opportunity, and turn ambiguity into a simple, coherent application. You know how to prioritize, control scope, challenge customer requests constructively, and make strong UX decisions without waiting for a complete specification.
  • Client-facing experience: you've worked directly with customers before and communicate professionally, in speech and in writing, in high-proficiency English.
  • Support instincts: experience handling customer issues — triaging, debugging unfamiliar codebases, QA-ing, and closing the loop.
  • Experience: 3+ years of relevant professional experience.
  • Availability: comfortable working US hours (PST).

Nice-to-Haves

  • Previous consulting, professional-services, solutions-engineering, implementation, or forward-deployed experience.
  • Experience with React and TypeScript or a comparable modern full-stack web stack.
  • Experience integrating third-party systems and working with enterprise authentication, permissions, or workflows.
